Brussels, 8th May 2013: On 15th May 2013 a seminar will be held in the European Parliament. The topic is: Russia's Civil Society under pressure - what the EU should do.

Russian civil society is today under unprecedented pressure from the side of Russian state agencies. The European Union must set a clear signal of support and solidarity with Russia’s emerging civil society. Actual EC funding for Russian NGOs does by far not meet the actual capacities of Russian NGOs and is not adequate to the political need for the support of democratic movements in the country. EC funding for Russian NGOs must be increased significantly. But we should also think about how to improve awareness raising, political support, speed up visa facilitation and more.The Seminar is organised by Werner Schulz MEP.
